Jaipur
Jaipur is a pioneering legendary beer by Thornbridge brewery. Some months ago I tried to make it myself. I produced a great hoppy IPA, but it wasn’t Jaipur.
With the help of the MaltMiller I’m going to have another go at making it as a 10L brew:
Malt | Bill |
---|---|
Low colour Maris Otter | 100% |
Last time round I used two malts (Maris Otter + Vienna), but it turns out that these days it’s a single malt brew.
The hop situation is more complicated, as it should use a mixture of pellet and leaf hops, and also requires a hopnik (or a simulated hopnik):
Hops | Amount | Time |
---|---|---|
Hop bittering extract | 1.5ml | Start of boil |
Chinook | 6g | Whirlpool at 92C for 5 mins at the end of the boil |
Then, following a whirlpool rest for 20 mins, whirlpool at 92c for 20 mins with:
Hops | Amount |
---|---|
Cascade | 19g |
Chinook | 18g |
Centennial | 17g |
Columbus | 8g |
Simcoe | 6g |
For the yeast, I’m going to try using WHC LAX. It’s not exactly the Yorkshire strain used by Thornbridge, but it should give good enough results.
Then dry hop for 48 hours after fermentation with:
Hops | Amount |
---|---|
Chinook | 17g |
Centennial | 11g |
Cascade | 6g |
Some of these hop quantities may be a little off, but it should still turn out to be an awesome IPA.
